Mollie Russell provided a playlist for Pathfinder’s new Plane of Metal. She included the following:
Ride the Lightning - Metallica
Flash of the Blade - Iron Maiden
New Millennium Cyanide Christ - Meshuggah
Lateralus - Tool
Side Note: Mollie did a thoughtful job of making her playlist selections based on the songs’ lyrics, music, and even album cover imagery. She showed she’s a true fan of these artists and scored a critical hit. In contrast, this Bell of Lost Souls article on cults in D&D makes a reference to Blue Öyster Cult, but it’s a now-tired, more-cowbell-sketch reference, so they have to roll on the fumble table.
The Plane of Metal is described in the upcoming book Rage of Elements for the Pathfinder TTRPG. This preview article from Wargamer showed an image of a new Resonant Guitar magic item that will be included in the book:
Appendix LP Podcast
I launched the Appendix LP Podcast last week. Many thanks to Travis Miller for being my first guest. Later this week, I will be publishing the second episode, which features an interview with Levi Nunez from the band Loot the Body. The podcast is available on platforms such as Apple and Spotify or you can access it from the Podcast tab right here in the Substack page for the Critical Hit Parader newsletter. If you are interested in hearing from people in the RPG industry talk about the music that inspires their gaming, I would be honored if you check out the podcast. And please share with anyone else you think might enjoy it.
Favorite Lyricists Panel
I was a panelist on the Contrarians YouTube show to talk about my three favorite lyricists. You can watch the video and find out my choices at the following:
To make an Appendix LP connection to my #2 choice, you can hear one of his songs playing in the background of the scene in the movie ET when the kids are playing D&D.
