Real Life Magazine Related Content
Today I share with you three examples of real life magazine related content I discovered this week…
Because my soon-to-be-published Critical Hit Parader zine provides TTRPG content in the stye of vintage rock music magazines, I was excited to read the blog post from James Kerr titled TTRPGs Should Read Like Magazines. But where it has smart recommendations for adopting page layout best practices from magazines, I have parodies of Creem magazine features and fake ads. Oh well. HT to Thomas Manuel and his The Indie RPG Newsletter for the article recommendation.
At Critical Hit Parader we’re always on the lookout for rock songs and albums to inspire our next TTRPG adventures. A single song or album cover artwork may be all you need to come up with an idea for a one-shot adventure. But if you’re looking for ideas for a whole campaign, you can’t beat a concept album. And if you want your next campaign to be over-the-top, gonzo fun, check out Kerrang magazine’s 12 of the Most Out-There Concept Albums Ever for inspiration. P.S. I LOVE the Devin Townsend album mentioned.
Lastly, I just discovered the upcoming New Edge Sword & Sorcery magazine right before the kickstarter for the first issues ended. I was turned onto it by listening to Jeff Jones’s RPG Ramblings interview with Oliver Brackenbury, the editor of the magazine. Critical Hit Parader patron saint Michael Moorcock has committed to a new story for issue #1!
