I’d like to call your attention to a couple of tabletop roleplaying game Kickstarters that have music connections…
Rock & Roll Greatest Hits Volume 1
Eric Garneau just launched a Kickstarter for Rock & Roll Greatest Hits, Volume 1. Here’s the description…
Rock & Roll Greatest Hits, Volume 1 is the ultimate fusion of the worlds of tabletop roleplaying games and popular music. This hardbound, fully illustrated game book contains six complete TTRPG adventures inspired by classic albums from the 1970s through the present, plus dozens of adventure hooks, creatures, equipment, and more coming straight out of our record collections and into your campaigns for the fifth edition of the World’s Most Popular Roleplaying Game.
In full disclosure, I am contributing three adventure hooks for the book based on the following albums:
Deadsoul Tribe - A Murder of Crows
Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
I appreciate Eric inviting me to participate, and I’m fired up to bring a metal perspective to this exciting project!
Forgotten Ballad
I just backed the Kickstarter for the Forgotten Ballad, a minimalist tabletop RPG. It’s written by Fillepe da Silva, published by Bloat Games, and described as “A Sword & Song Adventure Game.” Although it does not appear to be influenced by rock music, the way that songs play a key part of the game’s concept caught my eye. From what I can tell, characters search for forgotten songs buried in old ruins, and the game includes rules for playing the songs to create magical effects.
The Kickstarter is already successfully funded, so I’m looking forward to digging into it!
Upcoming Blue Öyster Cult Book
Lastly, I’m honored to participate in a new Blue Öyster Cult book coming out the 18th of August by prolific music author Martin Popoff. Martin has written several other BÖC books, and he and I have discussed the band on several episodes of The Contrarians YouTube channel. The new book is titled Dominance and Submission: The Blue Öyster Cult Canon, and it covers each BÖC album in a Q&A format. Martin interviewed me over the course of two lengthy sessions to provide content for the book. You can learn more details and order the book from the Wymer Publishing website.
Thanks for shouting out Rock & Roll, Matt! I backed Forgotten Ballad as well; it looks great!
