I got turned onto the steampunk band The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing from a playlist Ian Sharp shared in his LP newsletter. I find their songs to be clever and fun with tasty and fiery lead guitar by Andrew O’Neil. With the subject matter and spoken-word pieces, the music is also wonderfully evocative of a steampunk setting.
From a tabletop roleplaying game perspective, I think their music would be inspirational for steampunk-adjacent games like Blades in the Dark, Iron Kingdoms, or Cogs, Cakes & Swordsticks1.
You can listen to the band and purchase their music from their Bandcamp page:
Hardcore Split Zine
I just purchased Heavy Steps/No Future Split Zine, a hardcore punk TTRPG collaboration between Loot The Room and World Champ Game Co. It provides two games in one zine. Here’s the description:
In Chris Bissette’s Heavy Steps On Hollow Ground you play members of a touring hardcore band about to play the most fucked up show of your lives. Everything will go wrong, and nobody will get out alive.
Heavy Steps on Hollow Ground is a tabletop RPG for 3-5 players about making the most of your last moments with found family. It’s Green Room meets From Dusk Till Dawn.
In Adam Vass’ No Future you play punks holding a benefit show on the one year anniversary of a horrifying disaster, who get stuck in a time loop and find themselves dying over and over again. Play through the same endless night as you try desperately to figure out what’s happening and how to stop it.
No Future is a tabletop RPG for 3-5 players about hardcore punks stuck in a time loop and dying again and again in an effort to get out. It’s Green Room meets Groundhog Day.
They both sound like a blast and I LOVE the split zine concept, which is reminiscent of classic punk split EPs and singles.
